at Santa Monica Women's Bay Club, (1210 4th St, Santa Monica, CA, 90401)
At the invitation of Ralph Potkin, M.D., Alex Kerten will come to Los Angeles from Tel Aviv for the first time for this special 2 Day Training in Gyro-Kinetics.
What do improvisational jazz, martial arts, and mind/body integration have in common? They form the basis for Gyro-Kinetics, which is Alex Kerten’s unique blend of music, movement, and martial arts. Gyro-Kinetics helps the human body restore its physical, emotional, mental, and physiological balance.
Alex Kerten holds seven martial arts blackbelts and studied mind/body integration at the Trager Institute. After years of intense physical and mental training, he developed Gyro-Kinetics to help manage symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders.
Now this unique and scientifically proven method of bringing mindful attention to movement is available not only to assist those with movement disorders, but anyone who seeks a more fluid mind/body integration experience.
When your mind and body are in synch they work harmoniously together. Alex says, “Movement, music and rhythms set up certain vibrations which unquestionably result in a physical reaction.” He developed Gyro-Kinetics so that people can become more in tuned with their physiology. Bringing mindful awareness to movement allows people to work with vibrational patterns in the body creating an integration between the mind and the body.
In this workshop you will learn:
- How to follow your internal rhythms and vibrations to align with your own physiology.
- How to consciously manage posture and movement to open up new neural network pathways.
- How to work with negative thoughts -- Negative thoughts can lead to habitual physiological patterns. A person’s psychology, mood, thoughts, and level of anxiety have a direct influence on the condition of the body.
- How to integrate the mind and body resulting in greater alignment of biochemistry and psychology -- In addition to speaking with words, we speak with our bodies. You will learn to bring conscious awareness to what your body is saying, and learn how to craft the message.
10:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday October 5th
10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday October 6th
Please note there will be a 1.5 hour lunch break. Lunch will not be provided. The venue is located near the 3rd Street Promenade with many food options.
About Alex Kerten
Born in 1945 in Israel, Alex developed a magnetic affinity for music from a very young age, with a special love for jazz and improvisation. From 1963-1966, Alex performed his compulsory service in the Israeli Defense Forces, where he was introduced to Martial Arts. A desire to pursue that field led him to the Far East where he enriched his knowledge, and studied eastern philosophy and the arts of structuring movements. He also studied under the great martial arts masters who helped him develop his knowledge and physical capability to the highest level.
Returning to Israel, Alex studied under Grand master Gad Skornic, gaining valuable real life experiences. Alex graduated with seven black belts: four in Kenpo ju-jitsu, one in Ninjutsu and two in Hashita. He continued studying structuring and healing movements with Dr. Arie Kalev and psychophysical integration (mind/body integration) at the Trager Institute, an approach developed by Dr. Milton Trager. Using that knowledge, he worked with Parkinson’s patients for four years at the state-of-the-art rehabilitation and chronic care facility, the Reuth Hospital in Tel-Aviv and later taught at the Maccabi Health Institute, part of Maccabi health care services in Israel. Alex authored a book, Good-bye Parkinsons, Hello Life, helping thousands of people manage symptoms of the disease.
Utilizing these decades of experience in the fields of movement disorders, posture management, respiratory and physical behavior disorders, Alex Kerten developed the Gyro-Kinetics method. The unique blend of martial arts, structuring and healing movement, and music differentiates Gyro-Kinetics from other movement integration and mind-body techniques. That potent mix reflects the broad cross-disciplinary experience and education of its founder Alex Kerten.
