at Santa Monica Meditation Center, (1430 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA, 90404)
Deepening Your Practice is a welcoming group of dedicated practitioners who meet Thursday mornings from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. under the guidance of InsightLA’s Founding Teacher Trudy Goodman and Senior Teacher Elizabeth Rice, as well as other InsightLA teachers and senior practitioners.
We offer a place, indeed a community, for seasoned practitioners to sit together, soak in Dharma teachings, and connect with other practitioners about how the Dharma is expressing itself in our lives. A number of us joined the Deepening Your Practice sangha shortly after Trudy arrived in LA, and some practiced meditation for numerous decades before then. We welcome you into the deep silence supported by such long-term practice.
The American poet Muriel Rukeyser wrote that “the universe is made of stories, not of atoms.” Our investigation for January and February will be “Changing Our Stories” for the stories we live by lead us either to suffering or transformation. What sustains and nurtures our life? We’ll look at how to live to our full potential during this time of great transition. Which of our stories are false or limiting old paradigms? Which stories open our path forward? “Change the stories individuals and nations tell themselves and live by,” writes the Nigerian poet and novelist Ben Okri, “and you change the individuals and nations.” Together we’ll discover how we might live into creative, new stories that allow us to embody our greatest intentions for love, community, and well-being for all beings on this Earth.
You may register for a single session or for this entire series online by clicking the "Register Now" button below. You may also drop-in to the event and offer a donation in person.
This offering is donation-based. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
The suggested donations are:
$20 - $30 for a single class session
$180 - $240 for the entire January - February series
Please consider in deciding how much to give that as a general matter, at an average-sized event, at $30 per participant InsightLA just covers its costs of teachers, administrators, rent, outreach, and participation of students who pay less.
Please give at the highest level you can afford. Your act of generosity is significant. The Buddha taught that all of the beautiful qualities of heart and mind begin with generosity: Generosity dissolves the separation of self and other. Giver, receiver, and gift intertwined. Everyone has a role to play in supporting the whole community practicing to their fullest potential.
