at East Hollywood Meditation Center, (4300 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90029)
Transition is a term that encompasses so many possibilities that transgender people may make to affirm who we are in the world, including medical treatments, surgery, name, pronoun and asthetic changes. No matter how you transition or how long you have been in a state of transition, there is one guarantee - each moment brings with it a new experience. Our meditation practice is a tool for grounding in the present moment to be with whatever arises. Our intention is to be more fully aware of the ever-changing nature of transition, all the while offering compassion to ourselves and one another.
This group is intended to be a safe, nurturing space for members of the transgender community to practice meditation together, build community and share experiences surrounding transition. People at any stage, type, or length of transition are welcome, including those who are questioning whether transition is right for them. People who identify along the binary as well as those who are non-binary are welcome.
The format for this group includes a 30 minute meditation, an opportunity for each person to check in and share from the heart whatever may be arising in their transition, and a mindfulness, compassion or community building exercise.
About the teacher: Hi, I'm Martin. I'm a queer trans man and I began transitioning in 2016. My meditation practice has been so crucial in supporting me through the many ups and downs transition. I want this to be a space for trans people to practice together, share our experienes and build community.
Cost: There is no cost associated with this group. This is a donation-based offering with a suggested donation of $15 to pay the teacher and support the center. No one turned away for lack of funds.
