Rosamaría was introduced to meditation in the 1990’s, while assisting a psychotherapist with translating meditation instructions for patients. Since then, she has explored various meditation practices. This path led her to the Insight (InsightLA, Long Beach Meditation and Spirit Rock) and Zen (Deer Park Monastery and Yokoji-Zen Mountain Center) traditions.
She has served on the board at Long Beach Meditation, helping organize meditation programs in Long Beach, California. In addition, she regularly facilitates sitting groups in Spanish and English in East Los Angeles, and at immigrant shelters in Tijuana, Mexico.
Rosamaría is a graduate of InsightLA’s Facilitator Training Program, led by Trudy Goodman and Maureen Shannon-Chapple. She’s received the Five Mindfulness Training from Deer Park Monastery, and was given the dharma name “Healing Strength of the Heart,” by Master Trung Quang Nhat Hanh. She is currently enrolled in a two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher program, led by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.
Prompted by Thich Nhat Hạnh’s model of Engaged Buddhism, Rosamaría is inspired to mitigate human suffering using insights from mindfulness-based practices. She is passionate to share her practice in communities which have limited exposure to meditation settings, and to groups that are dedicated to changing injustices in environmental, socio-economic and political arenas.
She holds an Associate’s degree in Human Service-Psychology, a Bachelor’s degree in Geography-Urban Analysis, and a Master’s degree in Geography.
Quite literally moved by jazz and afro-Cuban music, she also regularly practices dancing bachata, samba and salsa!
