“The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti- racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it’s the only way forward.” – Ijeoma Oluo

The work of undoing internalized racism is ongoing, it is a journey and not a destination. Much like the work of our mindfulness practice, we practice diligently to free our hearts and minds from the types of conditioning that constrict and oppress us like white supremacy. Sometimes we taste moments of freedom from the oppressive patterns that bind us, and that encourages us to keep going, to keep practicing. It is the same with the work of undoing racism, especially for white people.

Every system in our culture is setup to ensure the survival and the constancy of white supremacy. White supremacy is designed to operate invisibly, and our white privilege means we have the option of forgetting. We need help to notice how the system is operating inside our hearts and minds, and we need help to keep going when it feels like undoing racism is impossible. The support of like-minded individuals helps us move through this type of discomfort, so we can keep walking forward in developing our anti-racist capacities together.

Our most sincere intention is to make this community or Sangha (the Pali word for a community of practitioners) a gathering place for white people committed to doing the internal work of examining white privilege and the external work of fighting racism in our neighborhoods, workplaces and families. This white anti-racist space is also a place to practice mindfulness and insight meditation. This is a community ardently committed to the truth that our awakening is intertwined and no one is free until we are all free.

Each meeting will offer space for meditation, reflections, anti-racist discussion and personal sharing. No prior experience in anti-racist spaces or meditation is necessary.

Join us for the first Friday of the month from 6-8:00pm PT.
