As we find our way through this tumultuous time, we have all found ourselves both needing care and compassion and extending them to others in need. This class is an introduction to the Zen Caregiving Project’s model of mindful/contemplative care. Participants will be offered insight and practices for the development of the internal and emotional resources needed to truly be of service to others, as well as working with our own experience of loss and our own mortality.
This is a series of three classes that will cover topics including active, mindful listening, meditations and contemplations addressing for compassion, our own mortality, interdependence, and community.
These classes are appropriate for everybody, and will be of interest to those who are or will be taking care of family members, wanting to volunteer as a contemplative caregiver, and who are interested in looking deeply into how the knowledge of our own mortality can inspire compassion connection and response to our needs and the needs of others. The classes are also of interest to health care and mental health care professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, and health care researchers.
We are hoping these classes will inspire the growth of spiritual practice communities interested in the topics of caregiving, death, loss, and grief around the world, and more specifically, establishing a community/sangha in the Los Angeles area dedicated these topics and practices.
