This is a (slightly abbreviated) letter from the Clergy and Leadership at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It was sent to us by Tara Brach, and posted by Jack Kornfield as well. The letter expresses ethical concerns that mirror the teachings of mindfulness and loving awareness that we practice together. Our mission at InsightLA is calming minds, opening hearts, and changing the world. Today this means taking a stand on behalf of people who are being terrorized and killed in our society.
Today we are raising our voices to support sanity, kindness, and wise restraint in words and behavior. The Buddha was very clear: hatred never ceases by hatred, but by love alone. It’s past time to transform prejudice, cruelty and hatred into non-partisan, non-violent solutions based on fairness and consideration for all. As a nation, we can speak and act with respect and reverence for all life.
