Why Do We Offer Affinity Groups?

Last week’s video brought you up to date on our social justice initiative, Insight in Action. Today we want to share with you another way your donations are impacting our local and global communities – through the affinity groups we offer at InsightLA.

No matter who you are, it is essential to feel safe. It’s important to know that you belong where you are and wherever you go. Affinity groups are a place to heal and build community with people who understand and share our experience, to celebrate our diversity, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity.

We’re thrilled to tell you that we currently have affinity practice groups for aging folks, people of color, parents, immigrantsqueer people, those who are suffering from chronic pain and illness, transgender people, people in recovery, men, Spanish-speakers, white people who are working to end racism, and young adults.

This year, InsightLA held the first ever retreat for the transgender community at Big Bear Retreat Center. And it sold out! Due to transphobia, our community experiences rejection and violence, and are at high risk for suicide. This retreat provided a joyful place for refuge and healing. You can read more about it in this article featured in Lion’s Roar. This retreat was made possible due to the generosity of the InsightLA community.

Please consider making a donation to support the healing, joy and transformation affinity spaces provide. Let’s sit together!

Love,
