In a world filled with division, greed, hatred and delusion, we are in need of peace, not separately, but together. As part of the Buddha’s path, we cultivate and practice mindful walking, embodying wholesome qualities, such as kindness and peace for ourselves and all beings. Drawing on inspiration from the the recent 2,300 mile, 108-day Walk for Peace, led by Venerable Bhikkhu Pammakara and his fellow Buddhist monks from the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center that began in Fort Worth, Texas and concluded in Washington DC on February 10th this year, InsightLA invites you to join in this opportunity to walk together in peace in this spirit. The intention is to raise awareness for peace, inner mindfulness and unity admits social and political division in Los Angeles, the US and beyond.
We’ll be adapting this walk of peace to take place in one day, beginning in the morning with community intention setting at 9am at Hollywood Forever Cemetery (where InsightLA offers a weekly Monday night Community Sit) and ending with lunch together at the Santa Monica Pier, this 12-mile walk (approximately 4.5 hours), will be led by InsightLA teachers. Participants are invited to walk the entire length, or walk for part of the way.
Wear comfortable shoes, bring friends, pets welcome, bring own water, snacks and sack lunch.
We can walk together. Not in protest. Not in anger, but in peace, making every step a prayer, every mile a message that peace is possible. Kindness and peace is the footprint left on every heart that is passed.
