Financial Support

Our mission is to make all of our programs accessible. Every fee-based offering has a limited number of pay-what-you-can spots available to support self-identified people of color, members of marginalized groups (queer people, transgender people, and  people with disabilities) and those in financial need (those for whom the cost to attend is not financially possible).

These spots are offered on a first come, first served basis. Please pay at the highest level you can afford. In order for this support to be available, we rely on those who can afford to pay the full price to do so.

Find out if spots are available by clicking REGISTER NOW on the event you are interested in.

Safety

We work to protect the safety of all students. We reserve the right to remove any student from any class, sitting group, retreat, or any event if the student is disruptive to the safe learning environment we maintain for all.

Cancellation & Refunds

We reserve the right to cancel a class or special event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. If InsightLA cancels an event you’ve registered for, you will be offered a full refund. If an event has to be postponed for any reason, you will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer your registration to the same event at the new, future date. Join us for the inaugural Joshua Tree Camping retreat!

Joshua Tree National Park is a magical place! Enjoy a meditation and hiking retreat in the desert with its Joshua Trees and famous rock formations. The wide-open sky during the day and the incredible star-studded sky at night offer the mind a place to deeply rest and expand at the same time. This time of year is great for a camping retreat as it’s not so hot during the day but also not too cold at night.

We are coming together in the desert to immerse ourselves in the teachings of nature around us and within us.

The retreat is held in noble silence. There will be short Dharma talks, guided and unguided sitting and walking meditations, as well as small group meetings with the teachers to share about your practice and ask questions.

Every day there is an opportunity for a mindful silent hike. Participants can choose on some days if they want to do a longer hike (4-6 miles) or stay with the main group for a shorter hike (1-3miles). Participants can also choose to stay on or near the campground for their continuous, silent practice.

There will be three nourishing vegetarian meals per day.

Fees:
This is shared cost retreat. We offer a sliding scale from $350 – $500.
The higher end of the sliding scale supports people who can’t afford the higher rate. There is an opportunity for teacher dana after the retreat.

Dates: 5 days, 4 nights: Saturday October 31, at 2pm – Wednesday November 4th , 11am Pacific Time
Teachers: Christiane Wolf, Lawrence Schuessler (assistance)
Nature and Outdoors Guide: Lawrence Schuessler

Where we will stay:
We reserved several family campgrounds next to each other at Indian Cove Campground inside Joshua Tree National Park. Please check this link to learn more about the location and the amenities of the place.

Accommodation:
The reserved slots are tent sites, not for RVs. You can park your car at the site. If you’d like to join with an RV, please check the website for RV sites to reserve.

Please bring your own camping gear. We will share recommended equipment list closer to the start of the retreat. We have some extra gear to rent for a nominal fee.

Expected weather/ temperature:
In late October/ early November, Joshua Tree experiences cool, crisp desert weather with average high temperatures around 70°F (21°C) and average low temperatures around 46°F (8°C). The weather is generally mild and sunny, though nights can feel significantly colder in the desert air.

Berlin to Los Angeles to InsightLA I started my professional life as a Gynecologist at the University Hospital in Berlin, Germany. I had fallen in love with the universality of the Buddhist teachings as a searching teenager and it surely helped me stay sane through medical school and residency.
