Are you aware that you at times/often/always have different opinions about any given topic in your head? For example “A part of me really wants ice cream and another part thinks I really shouldn’t,” or “a part of me wants to reach out to that cute/nice/interesting girl/guy/person while another part is convinced I’ll make a fool of myself and get rejected (again!).” If you are aware of these kind of internal conversations or conflicts – you are in good company! This is our starting point.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a model of psychotherapy that offers a clear, non-pathologizing, and empowering method of understanding and working our human problems. IFS identifies and addresses our natural sub-personalities or parts. The aim of IFS is to achieve balance and harmony within the internal system by focusing on healing the wounded parts and changing the dynamics that create discord.
C.G. Jung said “Wholeness is not achieved by cutting off a portion of one’s being, but by integration of the contraries.”
Mindfulness meditation is learning to be present with whatever is arising in our experience with kindness, clarity and spaciousness. We learn to be aware of what’s happening instead of being lost in it. In this way, IFS and mindfulness work amazingly well together – or so we think!
In this 4-week online class we will introduce the IFS model in theory and practice. We will have time for theory introduction, guided meditations and explorations, small and big group discussions, as well as reflections during the week.
Having mindfulness meditation experience is not a prerequisite but highly recommended.
