In difficult times, the skills and reflections offered from the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program can help you show up for yourself just as you would a friend. Practicing these skills within BIPOC community can powerfully insulate us from a sense of separation and help heal grief and trauma caused by systemic oppression.
MSC’s three powerful components work together as an offer of validation and love to ourselves:
- Mindfulness: we pause and acknowledge when we’re having a hard time– without over-identifying with the difficulty or ruminating on it.
- Our shared humanity as BIPOC: We recognize there’s nothing wrong with us personally for having a hard time; this is what it’s like to be human in a world that racializes us. We understand deeply we are not alone and that together, we are more resourced.
- Self-kindness: We come to understand that if we searched the whole world, far and wide, there’d be no one more worthy of our own kindness than ourselves. As we practice being kinder to ourselves, we come to respond to ourselves with the same quality of care and compassion that we would offer to a friend just like us.
This course will include experiential exercises with these three components (including meditations, contemplations, and discussions), along with interactive teachings on mindful self-compassion, proven by research to boost emotional well-being and reduce anxiety and depression. Over the course of 10 online meetings (9 weekly classes and 1 half-day retreat), we will move self-compassion from a concept to a living reality in our daily lives.
Open to all who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color, we seek to create a safe refuge, where we can reflect, share authentically, listen deeply, and compassionately hold ourselves and each other in community. Please join us!

Testimonials from Alisa and Dina’s previous MSC BIPOC Series:
“This course was transformative and healing. Alisa and Dina are amazing, collaborative co-teachers. As a non-binary Black womxn, the depth of information and practice – and the supportive, dynamic BIPOC community – developed in this course have helped me grow, stretch and recover.” – Lenora L.
“This BIPOC MSC course was the most extraordinary course I have taken on meditation and mindfulness practices. It was rooted in practical tools, community, self love and depth of self. I would recommend this course to ANY BIPOC looking for a loving space to practice. This class is full of permission: permission to love yourself, love others, and love community. I learned from my fellow classmates tremendously and would take this class again and again. Self compassion takes so much tender courage and this course facilitates bravery, surrender and humility.” -Camila L.
“Yes, I would. I’d say, this is the short-cut for your life-long journey.”
