In this talk, Francesca will explore what it means to be with our grief, and how we may let our waves of emotion arise and fall. Using mindfulness, we will practice how our spacious, loving awareness can make space for the range of our feelings, including despair, hopelessness, a sense of stuckness, and more.
We’ll explore what’s known as the five stages of grief, including denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, start to identify these first as sensations in the body, as well as any narratives and preferences that may be attached to those sensations, and begin to keep them company in their distress.
We’ll create space for loss, longing and resentment, getting curious about what those emotions may have to teach us. We’ll invite our own direct experience of what it means to turn towards these feelings that are often labeled “bad,” and see what happens – often paradoxically – as we come together in our common humanity and share our challenges and insights in a contained, collective space.
We’ll begin our conversation on the Buddha’s teaching on the parable of the mustard seed.
