If you experience unease about ecological change, it may be helpful to know that you are not alone. An estimated two thirds of Americans and people around the world are anxious about the impact of climate change.
This course is for those who would like to learn ways to cope with eco-anxiety and foster mindful consuming in a supportive setting. We will explore changing our relationship with anxiety and learn about mindful consuming to foster well-being for self, other living things, and the environment.
For many, anxiety is a habit that can be untangled through teachings and practices based on ancient wisdom and modern science, including meditation in stillness and movement, gentle yoga, walking, sitting and mindful eating. You will also learn about the science behind anxiety driven habit loops, the theory of how we form distracting thoughts that can lead to worry and avoidance strategies like stress-eating, smartphone overuse, or procrastination. This includes shifting away from habits and behaviors that may contribute to ecological harm. Understanding habit loops will help you rewire your brain to help build sustainable healthy habits.
Class sessions will include breakout rooms and group discussion around the themes of ecological change, ways we can foster mindful consuming to reduce harm, and deepen our connection to nature.
