Our lives are bound together.
The more we wake up to the oppression, injustice, violence and destruction happening in our world, the easier it is to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of it.
It takes extraordinary courage to stay open, connected and hopeful in these difficult times. And it takes practice.
In order to remain compassionate and responsive to the world, it is critical that we find ways of coming together collaboratively to promote care, justice, equity, and flourishing.
Even as the world burns, we can hold in our awareness the truth that there is also love and beauty all around. While we engage in truth-seeing and truth-telling about the manifestations of greed, hatred and delusion all around us, we must also practice inclining our awareness to see and celebrate life-giving qualities of joy and pleasure. This is not a call to put on rose-colored glasses or bypass the challenges before us, but to instead help us remember that there is always more than suffering here.
When we can stay in touch with the fact of suffering, while also not losing sight of the truth of beauty and love, we can move through the world with the kind of resilience and hope needed to sustain ourselves and confront the systems of oppression that harm all of us.
In this 2-day workshop, we will engage somatic and contemplative practices developed by the Courage of Care Coalition in order to help us:
- center, resource and reconnect through relational compassion practice;
- recognize our “stress shapes” or habitual embodied patterns that show up in challenging contexts;
- heal and transform our “stress shapes”;
- envision new models of healing and being; and
- embody a more compassionate, grounded stance in these challenging times.
