Self-compassion is a powerful tool for emotional resilience, but it can be hard to access. Our physiology and culture don’t support the practice of being kind and supportive to ourselves. One way to enter the heart of self-compassion is by inquiring who is the self in self-compassion? Who is it that receives compassion and who is it that gives compassion?
We’re often identified with a limited sense of self that feels inadequate. We say things to ourselves like “you aren’t good enough,” “you should be trying harder,” “you should be kinder to yourself and others.” But who is the self that gives compassion to ourselves and others? Is there a separate “self” doing things at all, or are we simply opening to something larger that is naturally compassionate and interconnected with the greater whole?
Ironically, trying too hard to be self-compassionate may get us stuck in striving and make it even more difficult to open our hearts, whereas loosening our sense of separate self makes it easier for natural compassion to arise and be known.
Come join Kristin Neff and Caverly Morgan for an experiential workshop that will begin to explore these issues. We will create a space of loving, connected presence as we engage in discussion, interactive exercises, practice and meditation.
What we will explore in this workshop:
- How to respond to feelings of failure or inadequacy with kindness and care
- How to relate to difficult emotions with greater warmth and ease
- How to release the effort from self-compassion practice
- How to access your true nature which is naturally compassionate
- How to rest in Being, the heart of who we are
Schedule:
- June 7th, 7pm to 9pm
- 7pm to 9pm – Opening and basic concepts
- 9pm – end of session, going home
- June 8th, 10am to 5pm
- before 10am – students to prepare for Zoom online for Day 2
- 10am to 1pm – Morning Session
- 1pm to 2:30pm – Lunch Break
- 2:30pm to 5pm – Afternoon Session (combination of talks, guided practices, breakout groups and reflections)
