Financial Support

Our mission is to make all of our programs accessible. Every fee-based offering has a limited number of pay-what-you-can spots available to support self-identified people of color, members of marginalized groups (queer people, transgender people, and  people with disabilities) and those in financial need (those for whom the cost to attend is not financially possible).

These spots are offered on a first come, first served basis. Please pay at the highest level you can afford. In order for this support to be available, we rely on those who can afford to pay the full price to do so.

Find out if spots are available by clicking REGISTER NOW on the event you are interested in.

April Dávila’s unique teaching method utilizes Insight Meditation practice to help writers live happier, more productive lives.

Mindfulness for Writers

This 3-hour mindfulness for writers session will begin with a mindfulness of thought exercise. Notice and transform your relationships to the inner critic. Let go of harsh thoughts while working on a first draft, yet put that effective judgment to work when it’s time to edit.

Explore the Buddhist idea of Right View and learn to recognize when the words on the page don’t match the vision in your mind. Understand where to expand on your world-building to craft sensory-rich prose.

Finally, embrace compassion practice and learn to roll with the inevitable punches that come with being a writer. Soften your reaction to rejections, practice self-care, and support each other through mindful community.

Who is this event for?

This interactive mindfulness for writers class is for anyone who is interested in exploring the integration of mindfulness and writing. Participants are welcome to work on an existing project or use the prompt that is provided.

By the end of the 90 minutes, writers will be able to recognize critical thoughts regarding their writing, discerning which are useful and which can be let go of. Before leaving, the group will receive concrete, actionable steps for continuing their mindful writing practice at home, along with specific resources for finding or building mindful writing communities.

Where is this event located?

This event will take place in person at the Benedict Canyon Retreat House and online via Zoom. Find directions, accessibility, and important parking information here. Zoom details will be sent to participants after registering.

Attending In Person? In keeping with the principles of the dharma that underlie our activities, primarily non-harming, we are requiring that all attendees be fully vaccinated in order to attend in person. Masks are optional as all attendees are fully vaccinated. Attendance is limited to allow for social distancing.
