For many of us who identify as white, we hold the paradox of both benefiting from the injustice of racism and racist policies and sincerely wanting to contribute to its end. Our work is about turning towards the harm caused by racism, even as our socialization as members of the dominant group would have us turn away. We ground our work in the two wings of mindfulness: discernment and compassion. It is not our fault that a system of racial oppression exists, but it is our responsibility to acknowledge our place within it and work towards its end.
This event is intended for people who identify as white. It is offered both as a follow up to the program offered last month with the anti-racist advocate Tim Wise, and for anyone seeking to interrogate and interrupt the patterns of harm that operate internally and externally. Attendance at the Tim Wise is not a mandatory prerequisite to this gathering, though you can access a recording of the event here if you wish to view it. The opportunity to do this work in community is so supportive and a helpful resource for those who commit to it. Please join us!
