This course is designed to help us individually and collectively look at the construct of whiteness and to contemplate how it operates internally and externally, as well as historically and systemically. Undertaking this contemplation and exploration means swimming against the stream that is the phenomena of whiteness, because the phenomena of whiteness is sustained through ignorance of itself. Undoing white supremacy and committing to the work of anti-racism is a journey, the work is ongoing and this class is just the beginning.
During the process of examining our own racial identity, we have become firm believers in the value of non-judgmental awareness. This investigation must be undertaken with compassion. It is our hope that in undertaking this inquiry into white identity, we will commit to a ground of kindness. For this reason, we ask that you commit to fully participate in this training. We hope to build a cohort that will become an ongoing community of mutual support.
The size of this class will be limited to about 30 people and we will ask you to fill out a short questionnaire after you register. Also, there will be required and suggested reading, watching videos and/or podcast listening prior to each class session: this could potentially take about an hour of time each week. Please only register for this class if you can honor this commitment.
After registering for this 8 week series, you will receive an email within a couple of minutes containing the Zoom information. This Zoom info will also appear on this event page when you are logged in to your InsightLA account. To create an InsightLA account visit insightla.org/register.
