Financial Support

Our mission is to make all of our programs accessible. Every fee-based offering has a limited number of pay-what-you-can spots available to support self-identified people of color, members of marginalized groups (queer people, transgender people, and  people with disabilities) and those in financial need (those for whom the cost to attend is not financially possible).

These spots are offered on a first come, first served basis. Please pay at the highest level you can afford. In order for this support to be available, we rely on those who can afford to pay the full price to do so.

Find out if spots are available by clicking REGISTER NOW on the event you are interested in.

Cultivate Samādhi, a state in which the heart-mind is gathered, collected, unified or concentrated. When Samadhi is present, our innate sense of peace, ease and well-being shines through.

Join InsightLA Senior Teacher Gullu Singh in person at Benedict Canyon or online for this single-day retreat.

Cultivate Samādhi

During this day of practice, we will explore meditative techniques which cultivate Samādhi. When Samādhi is present, the mind/heart is less busy and hindered, and one can tap into an innate sense of well-being that is not so dependent on outer conditions. The Buddha described the cultivation of Samādhi as integral to creating the stability of mind needed to grasp the liberating insights into the true nature of things.

Expect to practice cultivating Samādhi with mindfulness of breathing, focusing on relaxation of the body. We will use the model of the 5 so-called Jhana factors as well as mettā or mettā phrases as the object of meditation.  We will also explore a walking technique designed to promote concentration.

Who is this single-day retreat for?

This retreat is open to anyone who feels ready to devote a full day to their practice, to cultivate Samādhi by strengthening concentration, mindfulness and metta meditation. The day will be held primarily in noble silence with an emphasis on meditation practice and instruction.

Although this single-day retreat is open to all levels, it is helpful if one has at least basic familiarity with mindfulness meditation.

Where is this day-long retreat located?

This event will take place in person at the Benedict Canyon Retreat House (SOLD OUT) and online via Zoom. Yoga mats, blankets, chairs and meditation cushions are available.

Find directions and accessibility information here. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Please sign up to offer or join a ride at the link in the left sidebar.

In-Person Attendees: In keeping with the principles of the dharma that underlie our activities, primarily non-harming, we are requiring that all attendees be fully vaccinated in order to attend in person. Masks are optional as all attendees are fully vaccinated. Attendance is limited to allow for social distancing.

Lunch: In-Person attendees please bring a light lunch and any snacks you want/need. There will be tea and coffee only.
