A Daylong of Concentration and Equanimity

The mind does not become free by force. It steadies when it is gathered, when the body softens, and when we stop leaning toward what we like and away from what we don’t.

This daylong is an invitation to cultivate two companion qualities of the path: tranquility and equanimity. Through simple, repeated practice, we collect the attention, calm the nervous system, and learn the balanced heart that can meet pleasant and unpleasant experience without being thrown. On the spring equinox — the day of equal light and dark — we practice the inner version of that balance: not indifference, not tightness, but a mind that can rest and a heart that can stay.

What we will practice

  • Foundations of concentration: posture, breath, and returning
  • Calm abiding — letting the mind gather without strain
  • Equanimity as a felt sense in the body, not only an idea
  • Working with restlessness, dullness, and the urge to manage experience
  • How a steady heart supports kindness, clarity, and ordinary life

This is not an advanced technique day. It is a day of slowing down enough for stillness to become possible.

Who this is for

  • Anyone who feels scattered, overstimulated, or easily pulled
  • Practitioners who want more depth than a short daily sit
  • Those coming from the mindfulness and metta daylongs who want the next support of the path
  • Beginners welcome; no special ability to “concentrate” is required

You do not have to arrive calm. Calm is what we practice.

What to bring
Comfortable clothing, water, lunch, and whatever helps you sit. Cushions and chairs will be available. The day will include sitting, walking, short teachings, and time for questions.

 Suggested donation: $125
