Refund and Event Policies

From the continued acceleration of our rapidly evolving information age arises a perplexing dilemma – the technology that connects us also drives us volitally apart from both each other and our own complete experience of self. Our attention now serves as a nearly inescapable bidding ground for big businesses and strong political motives. How can we regain our sense of agency over our minds, our bodies, and our social humanity?

Join The Center for Humane Technology co-founders Tristan Harris and Randy Fernando in conversation with InsightLA’s Trudy Goodman and Jack Kornfield as we unpack the consequences of our growing dependence on social media. In this special virtual event, we’ll grapple with the asymmetry of power highlighted by Tristan and Randy in the industry-shaking docudrama The Social Dilemma to identify solutions for a more balanced life and world.

**This event is a conversation between Trudy, Jack, Tristan & Randy. There will not be a screening of The Social Dilemma documentary.

Discussion topics include:

  • How can we understand and heal some of the extreme political division that exists across the US and other countries?
  • How do we grapple with the asymmetry of power between exponentially advancing technology and our human physiology?
  • Dependent Co-Arising – how is technology effecting us at the individual level and how is social media shaping our communities and our ability to solve the challenges in front of us?
  • What’s the solution and what changes do we need to make?

_____________________

The Social Dilemma is a film featuring the voices of technologists, researchers and activists working to align technology with the interests of humanity.

We tweet, we like, and we share— but what are the consequences of our growing dependence on social media? This documentary-drama hybrid reveals how social media is reprogramming civilization with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations.

    • Values-centric and designed with awareness that technology is never neutral, and is inevitably shaped by its surrounding socioeconomic environment
    • Sensitive to human nature and doesn’t exploit our innate physiological vulnerabilities
    • Narrows the gap between the powerful and the marginalized instead of increasing that gap
    • Reduces greed and hatred instead of perpetuating them
    • Helps to build shared truth instead of dividing us with fragmenting realities
    • Accounts for and minimizes the externalities that it generates in the world
