Join InsightLA for a very special yearlong program in 2027 for experienced practitioners who want to deepen both meditation practice and dharma study with senior teachers from the Insight LA, Spirit Rock and Insight Meditation Society (IMS) community.
The program is a committed cohort of about 38 people (+ online attendees) who register for the full year. Together you will gather for six non-residential weekends at the Benedict Canyon Retreat House…an intimate container for practice, study, dialogue, and friendship that is difficult to create in a single retreat.
Purpose of the program
- Deepen the practice and understanding of practitioners with a strong background in vipassana retreat practice
- Study with some of the most established and recognized dharma teachers in the U.S.
- Build a genuine sense of community through regular meetings over the course of a year
- Explore dharma themes that are not often covered in depth on silent retreats
- Practice and study in the quiet, natural setting of Benedict Canyon
Program format
Six weekend gatherings, roughly every other month:
- January 23rd and 24th, 2027 with Jack Kornfield, Trudy Goodman and Melissa McKay
- March 6th and 7th, 2027 with Kamala Masters and Vance Pryor
- May 8th and 9th, 2027 with Guy and Sally Armstrong
- July 17th and 18th, 2027 with Diana Winston and Beth Sternlieb
- September 11th and 12th, 2027 with Celeste Young and Gullu Singh
- December 4th and 5th, 2027 with James Baraz
Each weekend is two full days of teaching on Saturday and Sunday, led by a skilled Spirit Rock / IMS teacher. The teachers will offer preparatory work before each weekend, a sequence of talks, meditation instructions, and discussion around a theme of particular interest to them. The teachings are interactive—participants are expected to take part in the inquiry, not only listen.
Note: This is a non-residential program for students. You commute to Benedict Canyon each morning and return home each evening.
Typical daily rhythm (final hours to be confirmed with each teacher):
Saturday and Sunday, 10am-4pm PT, including sitting and walking meditation, talks, and discussion. Please plan to bring your own lunch.

- At least two 7-day silent intensive vipassana retreats with Spirit Rock or IMS teachers
This is not a drop-in series and not an introductory program. Registration is for the full year. The strength of the program depends on a stable group that meets throughout 2027.
