Eve Ekman, PhD

Eve Ekman is a contemplative social scientist and teacher in the field of emotional awareness and burnout prevention. At the Osher Center, Dr. Ekman’s work includes public education offerings in Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB), as well as developing, delivering, and, since 2015, improving a curriculum for residents called Supporting Provider Resilience by Upping Compassion and Empathy (SPRUCE).

She is the co-lead instructor for CEB, an evidence-based emotional awareness training created by Dr. Paul Ekman and Buddhist scholar Alan Wallace. The CEB training invites participants to investigate their driving motivations, as well as the roots of their destructive emotional episodes through tools of meditative practice and in-depth analysis of emotional events.

Dr. Ekman’s writing on empathy, burnout, and compassion has appeared in peer-reviewed journals as well as in chapters in The Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychologyand The Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science.She does training and consultation for emotional awareness and burnout prevention for private and public sector organizations in the Bay Area and beyond.
