There is a lot of research being done on the health benefits of intermittent fasting in recent years. And interestingly, the Buddha and his monks engaged in the practice all those years ago. Many modern retreat centers still continue with the practice of not eating after the noon meal. Some of the benefits include, reduced insulin resistance and inflammation, and induced cellular repair to name a few. The Buddha said:
“When a person is constantly mindful,
And knows when enough food has been taken,
All of their afflictions become more slender,
They age more gradually, protecting their lives.”
In modern times, with the over abundance and processed food, it is easy for any of us to fall into unhealthy eating patterns. And these patterns can be difficult to change. The purpose of this workshop is to provide structure and support and so that we can make new and beneficial habits for ourselves. We will learn about the science of intermittent fasting, learn practices of self love and compassion, have a written plan of action for the 4-week period of practice and have small groups of accountability/ support.
The 16-8 (16 hours fasting and 8 hour eating window) or 14-10 model of intermittent fasting can help to break old patterns and will be encouraged.
